Of War and Patriotism

...People killin', people dyin'
Children hurt and you hear them cryin'
Can you practice what you preach
And would you turn the other cheek
Father, Father, Father help us
Send us some guidance from above
'Cause people got me, got me questionin'
Where is the love...

A patriot must always be ready to defend his country against his government.
Edward Abbey

Why, the Government is merely...a temporary servant...Its function is to obey orders, not originate them.
Mark Twain

War is an instrument entirely inefficient toward redressing wrong; and multiplies, instead of indemnifying losses.
Thomas Jefferson

The defense policy of the United States is based on a simple premise: The United States does not start fights. We will never be an aggressor.
Ronald Reagan

Power always thinks it has a great soul and vast views beyond the comprehension of the weak; and that it is doing God's service...
John Adams

O, it is excellent To have a giant’s strength! But it is tyrannous To use it like a giant.
William Shakespeare

Conquest is not in our principles. It is inconsistent with our government.
Thomas Jefferson

The question in my mind is how many additional American casualties is Saddam worth? And the answer is not very damned many.
Dick Cheney

A highwayman is as much a robber when he plunders in a gang as when single; and a nation that makes an unjust war is only a great gang.
Benjamin Franklin

We know that dictators are quick to choose aggression, while free nations strive to resolve differences in peace.
George W. Bush

Look back over the past, with its changing empires that rose and fell, and you can foresee the future.
Marcus Aurelius

Rambling on

And Then
Mr. big Ben
My empire State
You know it’s a thin Line
Between love and Hate
As we grow Amidst,
Within us grows Extinct
So we Hide
Behind watchful Eyes
Of a Fox
In a Forrest
On a Park
Skipping to Land
On Land
From Tree
To a shining Tree
To Root
To branch Again
It is them I never Understand

For a warm Breeze
You Wait.
But, I say onto You,
Awaken,
Make a Stand,
Although Alone,
For the Day
To ascend Home
To Holy Land
Where mountain kissed Sea
And Prophets preached to Thee
My resting Place
Is "our" Place
For four Years
Yearning to Understand
Eyes locked Open
Forever Regarding
Forever "Cant"

Stop the Deception

On Septmeber 12, 2006, I grieve for them, but not only them.
The original "Ground Zero" is the site where the United States Government first tested the Atom bomb in the deserts of New Mexico. Later on, that experiment, would lead to the death of over 70,000 innocent civilians in Nagasaki, and over 140,000 in Hiroshima. Today, "Ground Zero" is a memorial in New York where the innocent civilians who died on September 11, 2001, are mourned.

The Tokyo bombings of March 9-10, 1945, killed over 85,000 innocent civilians with Napalm. The military leadership referred to those missions as "Burn Jobs". Robert McNamara, the 8th Secretary of Defense, and one of the strategic war planners of the Tokyo bombings later said "If we had lost that war, we would have later been on trial as war criminals".

An interesting way to celebrate the death of Fascism...

The innocent civilians killed during World War II and the Korean War, number in the 1,000,000's. The response, "this is the way we do business".

"Shock and Awe" is a battle plan proposed and implimented as a non-nuclear tactic, that can achieve results similar to the devastation of Nagasaki and Hiroshima. "Shock" with force and generate "Awe" about the plunder one airplane can carry.

Reading these things alarms me. Life seems so cheap. People today are actually sitting down and arranging efficient demolishion, butchery, and consumption of another people. I draw the line here, "business" is not done like this.

When did innocent civilians become fair game?

When did lines become so blurred?

Love and hate.

Food and starvation.

Thirst and satisfaction.

Reconstruction and re-devastation.

Divine and secular.

Friend and foe.

Life and death.

Peace and war.

Why can't we...

"Goodbye Blue Sky"

I just found out the bad news from a fellow blogger,
so I dedicate this to you "Syd".
His beautiful music lives on.

Welcome, my son, welcome to the machine.
Where have you been? It's all right, we know where you've been.
You've been in the pipeline, filling in time,
provided with toys and 'Scouting for Boys'.
You bought a guitar to punish your ma,
and you didn't like school, and you know you're nobody's fool,
so welcome to the machine.
Welcome, my son, welcome to the machine.
What did you dream? It's all right, we told you what to dream.
You dreamed of a big star, he played a mean guitar,
he always ate in the Steak Bar, he loved to drive in his Jaguar.
So welcome to the machine.

Roger Keith Barrett was born in Glisson Road, Cambridge, to Winifred and Arthur Barrett, on January 6th, 1946. From an early age, he displayed a musical and artistic nature, and played the ukelele, banjo and piano - indeed, he won a prize for a piano duet at the age of seven. He then took up the guitar. As he built on his guitar skills, his exploration of music in all its forms took him to the Riverside Jazz Club, where the drummer - one Sid Barrett - nicknamed the young Roger "Syd", a name which stuck. With his growing prowess, he played in various bands in Cambridge and London - bands such as Geoff Mott and The Mottoes, Those Without, The Hollerin' Blues, The Spectrum Five, Leonard's Lodgers, and then, in 1965, The Pink Floyd were formed. The Floyd toured extensively between 1965 - 1967, in a punishing schedule which saw them even play more than one country some evenings! The band's first album, Piper At The Gates Of Dawn, was also recorded during this period, as were Syd's contributions to the second album, A Saucerful Of Secrets. He left the band at the start of 1968, and pursued a solo career. Two main albums came out of this very fragile period - The Madcap Laughs, and Barrett (both 1970). Other solo albums were to follow, taken from various sessions recorded between 1969 - 1971. Roger Barrett retired from the public eye, choosing to live out the remainder of his life in his mother's house, even after her death in 1991. He contented himself with painting, and reportedly wrote a book about the history of art, for his own amusement (with no intention of publishing). Roger Keith "Syd" Barrett passed away on friday July 7, 2006.
